Chasing Reels presents as Double Feature: an evening with two of the best indiefilms that have never been screened in Dutch cinemas before. No blockbusters, no headliners, but an exciting selection from the grand indie filmscene. Beautiful, good international indiefilms that made an impression at festivals like South by Southwest and Toronto International Film Festival and that you will now be able to see in Dutch cinemas for the very first time.
'Colossal' is an American indie meets Japanese monstermovie. Oscar winner Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables, The Dark Knight Rises) plays out-of-work partygirl Gloria who, after getting kicked out of her apartment by her boyfriend, is forced to leave her life in New York and move back to her hometown. When news reports surface that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, South Korea, Gloria gradually comes to the realization that she is somehow connected to this far-off phenomenon. As events begin to spin out of control, Gloria must determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world.
The world première of COLOSSAL was at Toronto International Film Festival and the movie screened Sundance and SXSW after that, amongst others. Spanish writer and director Nacho Vigalondo got international attention with 'Timecrimes', won over 80 prizes at international filmfestivals and received an Oscar-nomination for his short film '7:35 in the morning'.
'Like Me' is a coming-of-age story starring Addison Timlin (Californication) playing Kiya, who documents a criminal raid through social media. Using beautiful images and stylish editing, this film shows the millenial craziness of the viral video era in a neon nightmare.
Although 'Like Me' is about youth who are fixated on the dangerous extremes of exhibitionism through social media, the visual spectacle plays an equally important role in this movie.
'Like Me' is the directing debut of Robert Mockler and had it's world premiere during SXSW, USA. The screening at Chasing Reels will be the film's European premiere.
Before the two premieres, Chasing Reels will present shorts and introductions. We'll announce the films soon. Until August 15, there are early bird tickets available for 12,50. After that tickets will be 15 euro.
In style the audience will be welcomed with a glass of bubbles on a red carpet.
“I often visit international filmfestivals and often see so many amazing movies that will never screen in Dutch cinemas, I aim to change that with Chasing Reels.”
