The Hero (2017, Brett Haley): An American feelgood indie that screened Sundance and SXSW before but dit not get a release in the Netherlands. So we will proudly host the Dutch premiere.
Road House (1989, Rowdy Herrington): Almost 30 years after its release, we will show you this over-the-top Patrick Swayze film on a big screen and on 35mm, so you'll get to see every flying kicks and explosion as it was meant!
Host Cedric Muyres will introduce the film and the night.
Tickets are 15,- and Cineville is free!
Brett Haley's film is about Lee Hayden (Sam Elliott); a Western icon with a golden voice, but with his best performances decades behind him. He spends his days reliving old glories and smoking too much weed with his former co-star-turned-dealer, Jeremy (Nick Offerman), until a surprise brings his priorities into focus. He strikes up a relationship with stand-up comic Charlotte (Laura Prepon), and attempts to reconnect with his daughter, Lucy (Krysten Ritter), all while searching for one final role to cement his legacy.
met oa: Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones, Breaking Bad), Laura Prepon (Orange is the New Black, That 70s Show), Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) en Sam Elliott (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Tombstone, The Big Lebowski)
Pers on The Hero:
“Sam Elliott is PERFECT. The Hero is true cinematic zen” - New York Post
“One of American cinema’s undervalued treasures” - The Hollywood Reporter
“Sam Elliott caries Brett Haley’s drama of an aging movie star - A tender story of the aging process” - Indiewire
"The dancing's over. Now it gets dirty" is what they said back in the 80s. Road House was Patrick Swayze's next big movie, two years after worldhit Dirty Dancing. Swayze is a bouncer who has to tame a rowdy establishment, while he falls in love with the hot doctor who heals his wounds. Sam Elliott plays Swayze's mentor and old friend. The film wasn't a big success, but later grew into a cult classic and found a large audience. This is a classic case of 'so wrong it's good'. The film is also a throwback to the great westerns of the 40's and 50's, so it's a perfect fit as double bill with THE HERO!
Pers on Road House:
""Road House" is the kind of movie that leaves reality so far behind that you have to accept it on its own terms. Was it intended as a parody? I have no idea, but I laughed more during this movie than during any of the so-called comedies I saw during the same week.” - Roger Ebert
“An immensely enjoyable slice of romanticised fisticuffs, this is a Western in every respect” - Empire
“Mindless entertainment of the highest order” - Time Out London
“The film gets campier by the minute” - Chicago Reader
“I often visit international filmfestivals and often see so many amazing movies that will never screen in Dutch cinemas, I aim to change that with Chasing Reels.”
– Cedric Muyres
